Educational offer and breakdown into CFUs

The total commitment is 180 credits, evenly distributed over the three years of the program (60 credits for each year).
The educational activity involves the acquisition of 60 credits annually through attendance at courses offered by the University of Messina (either specific courses dedicated to doctoral students or regular university courses with undergraduate students).
The 20 credits for the first and second years must be earned through attendance at lectures and in-depth seminars in the disciplinary areas (SSD) of the individual majors.
The remaining credits (40 credits) in the first two years are allocated by the teaching staff to activities related to the specific research of individual doctoral students, including participation in conferences, seminars, schools, and visits abroad.

Specifically, the credits are distributed as follows:

  • Individual research activity, to be discussed in the report for the transition to subsequent years (15 credits);
  • Thesis writing (5 credits);
  • Participation in research-related activities chosen by the doctoral student: conferences, congresses,
  • Erasmus-type or other study abroad programs (20 credits).

For the final year of the program, 15 credits are awarded for participation in conferences, seminars, schools, and study abroad programs. Additionally, 15 credits are awarded for publication in journals with national and/or international impact, 20 credits are awarded for writing the doctoral thesis, and the remaining 10 credits are awarded for activities chosen by the doctoral student.
